The Straits of Gibraltar
The view from Spain towards Morocco is one of my favourites. I could (and sometimes do) spend all day looking out across the water and the passing ships and the ever changing sky.
The Straits mark the meeting point of the Atlantic and the Mediterranean. That big lump emerging from the mist is Morocco and the mountain of Jebel Musa. Jebel Musa sits on one side of the water and the Rock of Gibraltar sits on the other. They’re known as ‘The Pillars of Hercules’ which in Greek times marked the end of the world. After this point it was likely that wayward sailors would literally fall off the end of the earth!
